Cracked Program, Why NOT?Why shouldn't I use a cracked copy of a program instead of purchasing it?A "cracked" or "kracked" copy of a program may contain a hidden virus or trojan horse. This is a very effective way to distribute a virus or trojan horse because a cracked program is usually passed from person to person, eventually spreading to many people -- the virus need not even replicate itself, the people are already doing it.
If you download an official copy of a program from the official website, then you know you are getting the real thing. But, if you download it from some stranger, who got it from some other stranger, who got it from some other stranger, who knows what has been done to that program? Who knows what were the real intentions of the person who made and distributed that cracked copy originally?
The cracker may have installed a backdoor into the program, allowing him to gain access to your information, if he so desires. Worse, you will never know that your security was compromised because a smart hacker covers his tracks. If security is important to you, then you should never run an AVnex program unless it was obtained from an official or reputable source, such as the AVnex website. This is the only way that you can be sure that you are getting a safe and secure copy, and not a copy that has been modified for nefarious purposes.
Furthermore, cracked programs have been modified to make the program run in a way that it was not originally intended to run, and thus can be unstable or cause problems with the system.
Programmers need to earn a living, and they deserve to be paid a reasonable wage. If you use a program without purchasing it, you are depriving the maker of that program from the income that is necessary to stay in business. Software development is an expensive and difficult job, and creating a program involves hundreds or thousands of hours of work. Software developers need the money to pay for the substantial costs of developing their software, and to fund further enhancements to the software. The expenses of a software company include:
- A wage for programmers (everyone needs to earn a living, including programmers!).
- Computer hardware such as computers, monitors, printers, networking equipment, UPS's, surge protectors, backup disks, etc.
- Software to help run the business and make software etc.
- Internet access.
- Web hosting.
- Programming books and reference manuals.
- Electricity for computers, lights, heating/cooling, etc.
- Telephone.
- Office rent.
- General office equipment including desks, chairs, lights, stationery, etc.
- Providing technical support to customers.
- Advertising/marketing.
- Legal expenses (accountants, lawyers, government fees, etc);
- Government taxation.
- Credit card processing fees.
- Bank fees.
- And more.
Admittedly some software developers charge ridiculously high prices for their products, but they are a minority. AVnex has very reasonable prices, especially when compared to competing products. Purchasing an AVnex product is a great way to show your support for that product, and to encourage further development of it. Obviously, AVnex will be unable to stay in business unless people purchase its products.
Using a cracked program is selfish because it means that you expect other people in the world to pay for YOUR use of that program. If no one pays for the program, the developer goes out of business and cannot continue to make the program. Thus if other people in the world pay for the program, but you do not, then you are receiving the benefits that OTHER people paid for.
Finally, do not forget that using cracked programs is illegal and thus you could get into trouble with the law.
